North Bar raises over £27,000 for St Gemma’s Hospice

Our joyful family of bars have raised over  £27,000 for local charity St Gemma’s Hospice through a year of fundraising activities.

When we turned 20 in July 2017 we wanted to set ourselves a proper challenge to mark the occasion, so created the target of raising £20,000 in 12 months to support St Gemma’s Hospice.

Staff, drinkers, friends and family have all contributed to us smashing this target through an array of fundraising activities: From jumping out of planes, to cycling challenges, to bake sales, to mums who knitted wooly hats!

Both John and Christian  joined in the effort alongside the staff. John strapped on his running shoes and undertook the Great North Run, whereas Christian hopped on his bike and raised £3150 by cycling 140 miles from coast to coast.

Preston Bar in Oakwood enlisted the help of regular customers to row across Windemere, Harriet who manages Alfred Bar in Meanwood jumped out of a plane, and North Brewing Co brewed a charity Session Pale as a permanent beer for all the bars. The charity beer raised £9,868.63 with 20p from every pint sold going to St Gemma’s Hospice.

North Bar has proudly supported St Gemma’s Hospice for many years. Located just 5 minutes up the road from North Bar’s HQ, St Gemma’s provides expert care, support, advice and information for terminally ill patients and their families, carers and loved ones.

We are pleased to announce that they will be partnering with global charity, Action Against Hunger, for 2018/19. This partnership will again be supported by a permanent charity beer on the taps across all 7 bars, with pop up fundraising events throughout the year.AAH fundraising
